Workshops
Learn hands-on skills for biotech builders.
Workshops are the on-ramp for new members and a continuous learning channel for the rest of the team. Sessions cover the techniques we use across our projects: wet lab fundamentals, CAD and mechanical design, electronics, programming, and the entrepreneurship skills needed to take an idea to a competition.
Most workshops are open to all McGill students, with priority seats for team members. Topics rotate each semester to align with project milestones and competition timelines.
Materials, lab protocols, and slides are shared with attendees so the learning continues after the session ends.
Upcoming workshops
We are preparing the next round of practical workshops for students. Dates and registration details will be posted here once they are confirmed.

Fusion 360 microfluidic chip workshop
October 22, 2025
McGill BioDesign welcomed guest speaker Zahra Mahmoodi, PhD, for a one-hour, hands-on workshop introducing students to microfluidic chip design with Fusion 360. Rather than limiting the session to a general overview, the workshop invited participants to work directly with the software and develop their own first chip design alongside an experienced guest speaker.
Participants gained practical experience turning an initial concept into a digital model while becoming more familiar with a computer-aided design workflow. Framing the activity around a microfluidic chip connected the design exercise to the small-scale devices used across biological research, diagnostics, and biomedical engineering. The session was designed for students curious about biotechnology, bioengineering, and biomedical innovation, including those approaching these subjects for the first time.
The workshop took place from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in ENGTR 0060 at McGill University on October 22, 2025. With support from Celsius, the event gave attendees a focused setting in which to ask questions, explore Fusion 360, and leave with direct experience creating a microfluidic design of their own.
