The work, in plain language.

More than two billion people lack reliable access to safe drinking water, and the burden falls most heavily on remote and rural communities. Conventional purification systems often depend on consumables, electricity, or both, none of which are guaranteed in the field.

SOlar-A designed a low-cost, durable water-filtration backpack for communities in Honduras. The walking motion produced while carrying the backpack powers a sensor that indicates when the filtered water is potable.

The project was featured in the McGill Reporter and was a finalist in the McGill impact200 Bicentennial Student Sustainability Challenge.
